Wetsuit Advice by Season

Summer (June–September): Water temps range from 18–22 °C in Andalusia to 14–18 °C in the north. A 3/2 mm wetsuit offers enough warmth and flexibility.

Autumn (October–November): The best surf season with more consistent swells. In the north wear 4/3 mm, in Andalusia a 3/2 mm usually suffices.

Winter (December–February): Northern Spain drops to 12–14 °C—opt for 5/4 mm with hood in the Basque Country and Galicia. In Andalusia 4/3 mm is often enough.

Spring (March–May): Warming conditions: switch between 4/3 mm in the north and 3/2 mm in the south, depending on the day.

Small Nature Campsites: What It Means

Small nature campsites deliberately keep their size under 100 pitches and focus on a minimalist experience. No mass tourism—just pure tranquility.

Facilities are simple but well maintained: clean showers, a small restaurant or bar, and sometimes a pool. Locations are green and close to nature reserves, beaches, or dune areas. At night you’ll hear owls instead of discos, and be awakened by birds and breaking waves.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about Surf Campsites in Spain

What is the best time of year for a surf trip in Spain?

From September to April the swell and offshore winds are most consistent. In summer you enjoy long days and smaller waves, perfect for beginners and longboards.

Are these surf campsites suitable for beginners and families?

Absolutely! All campsites provide access to friendly beachbreaks and surf schools. Child-friendly beaches, playgrounds, and relaxed evenings make them ideal for families.

Do I need to bring my own surfboard and wetsuit?

Rentals are available everywhere—from soft foam boards for beginners to high-performance shortboards. Wetsuits can be hired on site, though your own suit often fits more comfortably.

Do I need to book in advance?

We strongly recommend booking in July and August, especially for the small campsites. In spring or autumn you often find spots spontaneously, except during events like the Easter Pro in Tapia.
